CHOOSE THE RIGHT TILERS FOR

Outdoor and Floating Decks

Tiling an outdoor area is a fantastic way of adding value to your property, whether it be a traditional deck, a floating deck, patio or your pool and spa area. It not only makes the whole area look stylish but it also makes it safer and more practical as the surface of outdoor tiles is textured. This creates a slip-resistant surface that’ll give you, your family, your pets, and your outdoor furniture traction.

In the past, it has been common practice to fix outdoor tiles directly onto the waterproofing membranes. Direct fixing does not allow for inspection or maintenance of the membrane, makes leak detection difficult, and repairs costly. Council will not approve applications for direct fixing of tiles over a timber framed substrate (direct fixing onto a concrete floor is acceptable subject to an assessment of the membrane via the alternative solution process). If tiles are to be laid, they must be on a floating deck using pedestal jacks. Pedestal jacks simply rest on the membrane, gravity and the surrounding walls/parapets/balustrades hold the deck in place, they are not affixed to the waterproof membrane by screws or glue. The tiles can be temporarily removed making it easy to check and repair leaks in the waterproof membrane or to simply clean the membrane. Then the same pedestal jacks and tiles can be installed again.
